Habitat Garden Design and Consulting

Contact Daphne at growinggardenhabitats@gmail.com

Habitat Garden design and consultation provides recommendations and solutions tailored to your needs, questions, and goals.

My garden consulting specialties include:
  • Helping homeowners learn garden practices, plant identification, and the basic ecological relationships present in gardens.
  • Working with a plant palette of low-maintenance New England native plants.
  • Selecting the right plant for a place and creating spaces that flow.
  • Choosing plants to attract pollinators and birds and support them throughout their life cycle.
  • Distinguishing invasive pests from native insects in your garden.
  • Identifying invasive, non-native plants.
  • Teaching how and when to prune your garden species.
  • Organic garden practices to reduce your carbon footprint by conserving resources.
  • Gardening with kids to help them see and appreciate plants.
  • Edible landscaping with herbs and vegetables.
Clients have asked for:
  • A walk through the yard with a new homeowner to identify plants and make suggestions on rearranging, adding or eliminating plants to the garden.
  • A written plant inventory including key plant characteristics such as bloom time, pollinators, light requirements, for an existing landscape.
  • Step-by-step mentoring for a novice gardener on how to install pollinator gardens where there is currently only lawn.
  • Showing them how to plant, prune, or deadhead specimens in their garden.
  • A meeting to discuss  a garden plan with plant options for pollinators, a cut garden, and to attract birds.
  • Recommendations for ecologically sensitive organic gardening practices for maintaining a lawn and garden.
  • Pollinator and bird-friendly planting options and sources.
  • Research on plant options for a particular garden feature (pond, butterfly garden, or bird feeders).
  • Locations or suppliers for buying plants and going with the client to buy plants.
  • Help with planting their first garden.
